Savoy Cafe and Deli was created by the husband and wife team of Paul & Kathy Shields, Santa Barbara locals that love good food and have a passion for serving others. As a family run business, their four sons have worked beside Paul and Kathy for nearly 10 years, making sandwiches, peeling carrots, bussing and providing a truly all-in-the-family experience. When the aprons are off, the family can be found in the ocean, on the mountains, on the field or on the court.
Paul began cooking professionally at the age of 14 and has a combined 37 years of restaurant, hotel and natural foods kitchen experience. As Director of Prepared Foods at Lazy Acres Market from 1994-2004, Paul assisted the owners in creating one of the top producing natural foods market & deli in the country. The previous 10 years were spent managing hotel and resort kitchens in Hawaii. When Paul returned to his hometown of Goleta in 1993, he married Kathy, who grew up right around the corner.
Kathy, the consummate baker, continues to add excitement to Savoy’s bakery case with all things sweet! Kathy spent years working in local restaurants, serving the community with her engaging smile and easy laughter. Baking since she was a little girl, Kathy’s carrot cake has become a local favorite and she has become a leader in producing gluten-free, dairy-free, and allergen conscious desserts for the last several years.
Our award-winning salad bar is abundant with farm seasonal picks, including wild salmon, grass-fed beef and house-roasted chicken. We offer four daily soups with vegan and vegetarian options and our hot and cold cases offer more than 30 rotating dishes to choose from.
Our sandwiches are prepared with only nitrate and hormone-free meats, which are sliced and roasted in the Cafe. We also provide artisan bread baked daily and our dessert case is full of handcrafted cakes, bars, and cookies — many of which are gluten-free or dairy, grain or sugar-free.
A dizzying array of over 50 drinks can be found in our beverage case and if you’ve come in a rush, our grab and go case and freezer is full of every day favorites, ready when you are. Exceptional local wines, beers and nothing but fair-trade local, organic coffee can also be found at our espresso bar and we even boast of over 35 varieties of loose leaf organic teas.
Savoy has a simple atmosphere, which reflects the relaxed Santa Barbara lifestyle of the sea and mountains. Even our interior finish is milled from local wood. The airy plant-filled patio welcomes our canine guests as well.

We have designed Savoy Cafe to be generous and we are connected to churches, schools, non-profits and theaters. We actively push a more environmentally friendly business model to all we work with. We support other small businesses and efforts to grow the power of Main Street, USA. We have set a goal to send nothing to the landfill by choosing to compost and recycle instead.
We are always growing, adjusting and learning how to find the sweet spot where what we do is what makes our customers come in each and every day. We are extremely blessed with an amazing staff, great supporters and loyal customers who add what we only dreamed about into one small space here on Figueroa Street.
